Hiroshima, Japan

Hiroshima, Japan is the most ordinary city we have visited in Asia. There is nothing that jumps out and says "photo opportunity". The buildings are not architecturally outstanding; no dramatic hi-rise offices or apartments. The shopping district and downtown is rather plain. Prices, like all of Japan, seem a bit high. There is nothing outstanding at all. . . .
. . until you realize that shortly after August 6, 1945, 8:15 am there was nothing here!

It was unnerving to visit the Peace Museum, on the property of Peace Park, and see a monument to the destruction that our country wrecked on another. It was odder still to walk among the many school children that were visiting the same day as we were. I could not help but wonder what they had learned in history regarding the tragic events of a world war. What were they taught about the respective roles each of our governments played? How accurate is the history we are taught?

The red ball, below, represents the blast. Directly below is the research center now called A-Dome. As you can see, only a few buildings were left standing; the A dome was left in it's damaged form as a monument to the event.
